Digital Transformation in Seychelles: Visitors Can Now Extend Their Stay Online

Seychelles is taking a bold step forward in the digital era by introducing an online system that allows visitors to extend their stay more conveniently. This innovative platform was unveiled by the Department of Immigration & Civil Status during a press conference yesterday morning, marking a milestone in the country’s journey toward enhanced digital public services.

Visitors wishing to prolong their stay in Seychelles can now apply for an extension permit online via the Seychelles Immigration website or directly through the portal at permits.ics.gov.sc. During the press conference, Mrs. Erica Dufresne, Chief Immigration Officer (CIO), and Mr. Francis Vadivello, Principal Immigration Officer, outlined the many benefits of this new initiative.

Revolutionizing Visitor Experience

“The platform we are introducing today will enable visitors to extend their stay in the Seychelles more conveniently,” said Mrs. Dufresne. “Applications can be submitted from the comfort of their accommodation or even as they relax on one of our exquisite beaches. This digital platform will not only ease the lives of visitors but also reinforce our ability to more effectively manage their stays.”

The system promises a smoother, more transparent process, offering greater visibility into travel details while ensuring conformity with immigration requirements. Mrs. Dufresne emphasized that this initiative reflects the department’s commitment to digital transformation. “The digital extension of visitors’ stay permits forms part of our department’s journey to digitalization,” she stated.

Building on Past Successes

The CIO also highlighted how the development of this new system was inspired by the success of previous digital initiatives, including the Seychelles Electric Border System, SeyID, and CertExpress. These programs have paved the way for more efficient, accessible, and secure public services, and the online stay extension platform is the latest addition to this progress.

How to Apply

Before applying for a Visitor Extension Permit, travelers should prepare the following:

  • A valid passport
  • New flight itinerary
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Proof of sufficient funds
  • A credit or debit card

The application process is straightforward:

  1. Visit permits.ics.gov.sc or the Seychelles Immigration website.
  2. Follow the prompts to fill in the required information.
  3. Submit your application.
  4. Receive updates on your application status via email.

Processing typically takes up to five business days, though some cases may require additional time. Visitors are encouraged to apply at least five days before their current Visitor Permit expires to avoid complications.

Costs and Conditions

The first three months of a visitor’s stay in Seychelles remain free. For those wishing to stay longer, a fee of SCR 5,000 applies for every additional three months. Payment can only be made by card through the online platform. In rare cases, applicants may be required to visit the Immigration Office in Victoria in person.

If an application is denied, visitors can appeal by contacting Seychelles Immigration directly at info@immigration.gov.sc.

A Commitment to Modernization

Mrs. Dufresne concluded, “This initiative indicates that we are dedicated to transforming public services, increasing their accessibility and efficiency to brighten the future of every Seychellois. To extend your stay in paradise, it is no longer absolutely necessary to submit your applications at our offices; it can now be done online.”

Seychelles’ commitment to digital innovation ensures that visitors can enjoy their time in paradise with less hassle and greater convenience. This move not only enhances the visitor experience but also strengthens Seychelles’ position as a forward-thinking, tourist-friendly destination.
