Sports Awards – Top 5 List selected by the committee
The top five list for Seychelles sportsmen and women of the year has been announced by the award’s selection committee, with these athletes now in contention for the grand prize.
The previous list released, featured ten male and ten female athletes, and it has now been shortlisted down to five, with the winners set to be crowed during the Sports Awards night, set be take place on March 1, at the NSC Hall, Roche Caiman.
For the men, the top five list features boxer Keddy Agnes, Judokas Dominic Dugasse and Nantenaina Finesse, swimmer Simon Bachmann and Karateka Richard Ah-Weng.
For the ladies, the five top athletes selected are swimmer Felicity Passon, karateka Mastura Shah-Faure, Volleyball players Maya Biong and Angelique Adeline and track and field athlete Natasha Chetty.
Top 3 young athletes
The top three young male and female athletes were also announced on Tuesday, where the top three boys includes Jishin Jins and Kyan Francourt, both Karatekas, with windsurfer Jules Kandasamy also among the top three.
For the girls, the top features swimmer Angelina Smythe, along with badminton players Liana Bedier and Aurelie Jean-Louis.
The winner of the award for the sporstman and woman of the year is selected by a selection committee, made up of sports officials and journalists, where performance in various international tournaments giving weight to each athlete’s case to be name the best.
Here, such international games such as the Olympics carry the most weight, with performances at World Championships, African Games and the Indian Ocean Island Games, all looked at as the top tournament for local athletes.
