Moutya Pti Mimi: Keeping The Seychellois Culture Alive, One Dance at a Time

In the heart of Seychelles amidst tropical paradise, three Seselwa best friends; Frances, Emmaline, and Emelie decided to pursue their mission to keep the traditions of Seychelles alive through the mesmerizing art of dance. After being approached to perform alongside well-known Seychellois Singer Emmanual Marie and acknowledging their shared passion for Seychellois culture and heritage, they formed Moutya Pti Mimi in August 2022.

Since the formation of the group, Moutya Pti Mimi has been a beacon of cultural pride, captivating both locals and tourists at various venues, from well-known restaurants to top-rated resorts and exclusive private parties. With appearances on prestigious platforms, including international programs, they have become synonymous with the authenticity and vitality of Seychellois dance. Their performances, infused with the vibrant rhythms of Seychellois music, have left an imprint on the hearts of all who have been fortunate enough to witness their magic. As a group, they are successfully showing that Seychelles isn’t only special due to its breathtaking beaches but also because of its people, vibrant ambiance, and the richness of its history and culture.

The group’s name is inspired by the song ‘Pti Mimi’, by Seychellois artist Sony Morgan, which Mr Emmanual Marie later made a cover of. The lyrics go ‘Pti Mimi ki nou le’ which translates to ‘Pti Mimi is what we want’. They found this phrase to be catchy and feel that the name encapsulates their essence as a group – a blend of tradition, passion and fun.

From Mahé to the inner and outer islands, and even across the seas to distant shores, Moutya Pti Mimi is ready to infuse your events with the vibrant spirit and rhythms of the Sega, Moutya, and Kanmtole dances! Whether you’re planning a Creole dinner, a beach bonfire, a yacht party, a lively cultural celebration, a music gig, or a wedding, their group promises to bring an authentic Seychellois entertainment experience to you and your guests. They also provide professionally choreographed performances and private classes if you wish to brush up on your dance skills! Their talented team can tailor their services to suit your event’s unique needs.

Valentina, who is currently studying at the Business academy, is a professional dancer and will soon be participating in a dance competition in Russia!

Together with their growing community of supporters, Moutya Pti Mimi envisions a future where Seychellois culture thrives.
