Danny Faure Foundation Launches 2025 ‘Losean, Parti Mon Lavi’ Storytelling Competition

The Danny Faure Foundation (DFF) has officially launched its 2025 Short Story Competition, inviting Seychellois writers to share their deep connections to the ocean through storytelling. Under the theme “Losean, Parti Mon Lavi” (The Ocean, Part of My Life), the competition is open to all Seychellois aged 21 and above, offering an exciting platform for both aspiring and seasoned writers to showcase their talent.

A Celebration of Seychelles’ Connection to the Ocean

As an island nation, Seychelles has always been shaped by the ocean. Whether as a source of livelihood, a place of recreation, or a source of inspiration, the sea holds a special place in the hearts of Seychellois. This competition aims to capture these experiences and express them through creative storytelling.

Writers are encouraged to submit their work in Creole, English, or French, allowing for a rich diversity of narratives that reflect Seychelles’ vibrant culture and history. Each participant may submit one original, unpublished short story of up to 2,000 words, written in either fiction or creative nonfiction. Submissions must be typed, double-spaced, and sent in PDF format for final review.

Competition Details & Submission Guidelines

The competition officially opened on 26 March 2025, and participants have until 31 July 2025 to submit their entries. Stories must be sent via email, with the subject line including the participant’s name, contact details, and word count. Entries will be evaluated based on originality, writing style, and adherence to the competition guidelines.

Exciting Prizes Await the Winners

The best entries will be awarded fantastic prizes, offering winners a chance to unwind and experience the beauty of Seychelles. The top prizes include:

  • 1st Prize: Weekend stay for two at JA Enchanted Island Resort, Round Island (One Night Half-Board)
  • 2nd Prize: Weekend for two at Acajou Beach Resort, Praslin (Half-Board)
  • 3rd Prize: SCR 5,000 cash prize (Sponsored by HSL Limited)
  • 4th Prize: Weekend for two at Silhouette Island Guest House (Full-Board)

A Continuation of Ocean-Themed Storytelling

This year’s storytelling competition follows a successful previous event hosted by the Danny Faure Foundation. In 2024, the foundation launched the “Voice of the Ocean” competition, which encouraged primary school students to explore ocean conservation through storytelling. The initiative saw participation from 73 young writers, whose essays focused on the importance of the ocean and the challenges it faces.

Through these initiatives, the Danny Faure Foundation continues to foster ocean literacy and environmental awareness, encouraging Seychellois to reflect on their deep-rooted relationship with the sea.
